To provide ample training opportunities, since 2008 Yuanta has actively recruited new talent through its Management Associate (“MA”) program, as well as seeking talent to advance the Group’s international strategy and the industry trend toward digital finance, leading to a major growth of hiring and training activity in Yuanta’s six major divisions: Financial Holdings, Securities, Banking, Insurance, Futures, and Securities Investment Trust. Additionally, Yuanta first opens all job vacancies to internal applicants, and only begins an external search if a suitable candidate cannot be found; as a result, Yuanta’s turnover rate is on the low side when compared with its industry peers.

Talent Retention

To motivate top level talent, Yuanta not only offers promotions and salary increases to its top performers, but also views strengthening and developing employees’ professional abilities as a major part of its talent retention strategy.

Yuanta Financial Holdings and its subsidiaries have set an operational strategy and short, mid, and long term objectives laying out their employee training plans going forward. In recent years, this has involved preparing future management candidates for important roles, with a focus on international operations talent and the management trainee program. Professional training has focused on Fintech talent, and talent transformation plans in the securities, banking, and insurance divisions. Yuanta Financial Holdings works together with its subsidiary companies to implement employee training and development initiatives, while at the same time strengthening its employee database management abilities, giving the Group a better understanding of its workforce and their developmental direction, and making sure the Group is fully equipped to meet its personnel needs in rapidly developing business areas such as Fintech and international operations.

Furthermore, in response to the Group’s international development plans and the transformation taking place in Fintech, Yuanta has not only communicated its plans through internal channels, but has actively promoted its efforts both domestically and abroad, and worked to diversify the professional skills of its workforce. Through a range of initiatives such as organizing training courses, promoting digital finance awareness and knowledge, and industry-university cooperative research projects, Yuanta has helped its employees keep up-to-date on the latest socio-economic developments, acquire new knowledge on the topic of Fintech, and master new skills to ensure that they are ready for the industry’s transformation. With these and other programs, Yuanta offers its employees encouragement and assistance on a career-long path of learning and growth of their professional abilities.

Cultivating the Next Generation of Finance Talent on Campus

Since 2007, Yuanta Financial Holdings and the Yuanta Foundation have teamed up every summer to hold a two month “Graduate Summer Research Grants” program for graduate students with backgrounds in finance and economics. After selecting high-performing student applicants from a number of area universities, participants are then settled into departments at Yuanta Financial Holdings or its subsidiaries to begin their research cases, which benefit from the unique opportunity to unite academic concepts with practical experience. During this process, senior members of Yuanta business departments act as mentors to the students, providing information and experience to help guide the progress of their research topics. Upon the completion of the program, the Company invites university professors and other industry experts to judge the official presentation of the results of the case studies, giving the students academically superior and practically useful feedback on their research experience.

(1) Yuanta Financial Holdings – Graduate Summer Research Program

Yuanta has established joint projects with a number of universities to hold courses promoting financial knowledge, work together with university professors to offer students an educational experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, and organize periodic conferences and forums to discuss future trends in the financial markets. In helping students to familiarize themselves with the financial workplace, Yuanta recognizes their potential as future employees and customers, and values this as an important engagement opportunity.

After Yuanta Securities took the lead in establishing an industry-university collaboration program in 2002, Yuanta Financial Holdings decided in 2007 to integrate the Group’s resources and expand the program, with each Company subsidiary joining the program in response to the development of industry-academia endeavors and their own operational needs. Yuanta has been a strong proponent of the core values of industry-academia exchange, which include “fulfilling post-education corporate social responsibility, by providing students with internship opportunities that enable them to better understand the financial industry’s development and business model, as well as the Code of Practice and daily work content of Company employees”. Through these efforts, Yuanta fulfills its duty to effectively cultivate the next generation of financial talent.

(2) Yuanta Securities – Industry-Academia Exchange Program On Campus

In order to deepen the younger generation's knowledge of investment, in 2014 Yuanta Securities launched the Adopt-a-Campus Project, with branches nationwide proactively working with finance and business departments and clubs at 161 tertiary education institutions around Taiwan. Through this long-term engagement, we are able to strengthen the practical understanding of the financial markets among students. In late 2015, Yuanta Securities further extended the Campus Exchange Program, focusing on students at college and graduate school about to graduate and enter the securities industry. Through this project, we have provided nearly one hundred students with internships in our head office and our branches, helping them lay a stronger foundation for their future careers and cultivating a strong work ethic.

In 2016, Yuanta Securities cooperated with National Chiao Tung University, building a three-year industry-academia cooperative project, establishing a diverse and in-depth cooperative model with the head office trading unit to provide professors and students with practical industry experience. Such efforts help bridge theory and practice, while also providing students with valuable internship opportunities.

Statistically, nearly 20% of participants in Yuanta Securities’ industry-academia exchange internships have gone on to take positions at the Company after graduation. Yuanta Securities also actively uses these kinds of internship programs to engage with ethnic Chinese students in Southeast Asia who are equipped with local language skills, helping us to advance towards our developmental goals while also cultivating the international talent of the future.

(3) Yuanta Futures and Yuanta Life – Campus Internship Programs

In 2012, Yuanta Futures launched the Campus Internship Program, giving students the chance to integrate theory and practice, as well as to determine the direction of their future careers and cultivate the necessary job skills. As of the end of 2016, Yuanta Futures has established industry-academia exchange ties with a total of 36 school campuses.

Since 2014, Yuanta Life has actively worked with the Ministry of Education on the project “Reshaping Technological and Vocational Education,” providing guidance to numerous students through workplace internships and career exploration activities. In addition to the students who come to the Company through the Graduate Summer Research Program, Yuanta Life has also established yearlong industry-academia exchange programs with Takming University of Science and Technology and Asia University.
