Yuanta FHC Expects to Donate NT$10 Million to TFCF to Light the Way for Disadvantaged Children to Pursue Education

Due to the impact of the pandemic and inflation, social welfare organizations are short of donations, and with the start of the school year approaching, Yuanta Financial Holding Company’s (FHC) long-time charity partner, the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF), is still facing a huge shortage of scholarship funds, with more than 10,000 children in need of external assistance. Yuanta FHC believes that education is the seed of hope, and announced today (8/29) that it is expected to donate NT$10 million to the TFCF, which will serve as a sprat to catch a whale to call for donations from all walks of life, so that disadvantaged children can attend school with peace of mind.

Chief executive officer of Yuanta FHC, Chien Weng, said that the financial tsunami more than a decade ago caused an enormous impact on social welfare organizations. With the spirit of “what is taken from the society is used in the society,” Yuanta FHC sent warmth to the TFCF in the midst of the recession winter, and started the “Yuanta Comes to TFCF with Blessings” program, which includes financial support and child protection services, to provide the warmest care and protection to the disadvantaged children and their families through direct actions. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, social welfare organizations were again hampered in their support efforts. Yuanta FHC donated the “Economy Revitalization Love Cash Cards” to the TFCF for nearly 30,000 families to accompany them through the difficulties of the epidemic.

According to the survey report of the TFCF, under the pandemic, nearly 90% of families are affected financially, and 83% of parents are affected at work. Among the occupational categories, temporary workers face the most financial, family, physical, and psychological difficulties, which aggravate the burden of learning on students from disadvantaged families. Among the TFCF support recipients, more than 12,000 people have been diagnosed this year. Under the pressure of declining emergency relief funds and child support resources collection, as of mid-August, there is still a NT$60 million shortfall in support for the NT$150 million in learning resources needed.

In the post-pandemic era, “warmth” becomes the most important issue and motivation for social cohesion and continuity. Yuanta FHC takes care of every heart that needs to be cared for with warm actions. We hope that this donation campaign will lead all walks of life to lend a helping hand and light up the schooling path of disadvantaged students with love. Yuanta FHC will continue to integrate the Yuanta Group’s resources to respond to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in various social welfare activities and implement the three philanthropic strategies of promoting philanthropic care (SDG1), helping students to cultivate talents (SDG4) and realizing the community common good (SDG11).
