Yuanta FHC’s Systematic Energy Management Reduces Carbon Emissions by 10% Annually & Reaches 6 Daan Forest Parks' Absorption Capacity

In the face of an ever-warming planet, reversing global warming has become an issue that all generations must work together on. Since 2015, Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) has introduced and passed ISO greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, water footprint inventory, and other verification, with 100% group-wide coverage, leading Taiwan’s financial industry and implementing systematic and data-based management and target setting. Last year, we reduced our overall carbon emissions by ten percent (10%) and water consumption by four percent (4%) compared to the previous year, so as to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment.

In 2022, all of Yuanta Group’s ten (10) owned buildings were certified with ISO 50001 energy management system, and the intelligent energy monitoring system has been used to manage electricity consumption data in real time and alert immediately when electricity consumption exceeds the limit. In addition to the scientific approach to energy conservation, Yuanta Group further replaced old air-conditioning equipment and lighting fixtures, reducing electricity consumption by more than 3.78 million kilowatt hours in 2022 compared to the prior year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of about 1,000 households.

In response to the water scarcity dilemma caused by uneven rainfall due to extreme climate, Yuanta FHC introduced ISO 14046 water footprint inventory in 2019 to review the water consumption in the operations, and replaced the existing tap water intake by using water-saving labeling equipment and installing rainwater recycling in new buildings. The overall water consumption in 2022 was 5.63 million liters less than the previous year, which is similar to the water consumption of 20,000 people a day, based on an average daily water consumption of 289 liters per person.

Yuanta FHC has been actively laying out the use of green power with the goal of continuous carbon reduction. By the end of 2022, nearly a quarter of our operating bases have been gradually introduced to green power, making us the financial institution with the widest range of green power use in Taiwan. We also use ISO 14064-1 GHG inventory to grasp the situation of carbon emissions and effectively achieve carbon reduction management. In 2022, Yuanta Group’s overall carbon emissions were reduced by ten percent (10%) from the previous year, approximately 2,254 metric tons, which is equivalent to the carbon adsorption capacity of 6 (six) Daan Forest Parks.

We have incorporated ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) factors into our corporate culture and promoted them from our own operations to our suppliers and employees. For three (3) consecutive years, Yuanta FHC has invited suppliers to join the “Earth Hour” initiative and called on employees to participate in the Tamsui River Cleanup to exert corporate influence and create a sustainable and co-prosperous environment.
