Intellectual property rights is a primary and the utmost issue in financial innovation.  In order to protect the research and development efforts of the company and reduce the risk of infringement, Yuanta Financial Holdings has adopted an intellectual property management system since 2021 in the company group, with Yuanta Securities and Yuanta Futures receiving the Institute for Information Industry’s Taiwan Intellectual Property Management System (TIPS) Class A certification in the same year, and continues to deepen the system to attain the recognition of TIPS Class A certifications for Yuanta Securities, Yuanta Bank, Yuanta Life, Yuanta Funds and Yuanta Futures in 2022, making it the financial holding company with the most number of subsidiaries passing the validation in Taiwan.

In order to encourage financial innovations, Yuanta established the five dimensions for the development of intellectual property in 2020 and promoted the intellectual property policies and targets to follow when conducting business. By using the TIPS intellectual property management system, we continue to improve our management through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. As of the end of November 2022, Yuanta has obtained a total of 80 patents, including 11 invention patents, 45 utility model patents and 24 design patents. Yuanta has set up a reward and incentive system to encourage employees to come up with innovative ideas, seeking to expedite the momentum for financial technology innovations and provide financial services with greater convenience to the customers.

Yuanta Securities is committed to the development of digital finance and innovation, developing the “Mr. Investor APP”, which is an AI stock picker, and the “Strategic Transaction Platform”, and has obtained 24 design and invention patents approved by the Intellectual Property Office of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). After the introduction of TIPS, through the implementation of intellectual property management and the achievement of intellectual property management goals, Yuanta Securities has demonstrated the high importance that it has placed on financial service innovations and the efforts it has made to implement and promote intellectual property rights management.

Yuanta Bank integrates digital innovation with intellectual property management to strengthen the resiliency of financial sustainability and utilizes new technologies proactively to provide a satisfying customer experience and enhance the new value of the “Diamond Gold Digital Service”. Yuanta Bank has obtained the intellectual property rights of 35 items (patent applications and trademarks included) with the approval by the Intellectual Property Office of MOEA, and has been recognized by international and local professional agencies, receiving a total of 32 awards in 2022. With the adoption of the intellectual property management system, Yuanta Bank has improved and made its management measures on intellectual property more complete to achieve the goal of corporate sustainability.   

Yuanta Life is the first life insurance company in Taiwan to implement intellectual property management system and pass the verification. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Yuanta Life took proactive actions to participate in the distance insurance contract business, which Taiwan’s competent authority has approved, and passed the pilot program for the business, breaking the constraints of location and time to help customers and their families get the appropriate insurance coverage plan. We have also launched the smart customer service and the AI policyholder and claim service, using technological innovations to provide customers a comprehensive digital financial service.        

As the leading fund company in Taiwan, Yuanta Funds has obtained 19 patents, including 6 invention patents, 12 utility model patents, and 1 design patent, and has a significant lead on our peer fund companies in intellectual property strength. Yuanta Funds is the first company to offer the online transaction service of using electronic payment to purchase mutual funds and has strengthened the functionalities of Yuanta Funds’ LINE (an instant communication APP) official account to improve the convenience of investing and financial management for customers as we continue to provide quality products and services with professionalism for investors.  

Following the invention patent for the “Network communication device for achieving high-frequency release of transaction data” obtained in 2021, Yuanta Futures was again granted an invention patent for the "Information processing device and method" in 2022, which shows the increasing strength in financial innovation cultivation of Yuanta Futures in recent years. We will continue to upgrade of trading platform and optimize the efficiency of the middle and back office processes in 2023 and proceed to implement the business strategies in parallel with the intellectual property management plans to construct the service innovation landscape of Yuanta Futures.
