Yuanta-FJCU Dreams Take Flight Project Nurtures Talents in Remote Areas for a Long Time, Serving as Mentor & Friend and Accompanying Students on Life Paths

Yuanta Financial Holding Company and Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation (Foundation) take warm actions to care for the society and have cooperated with Fu Jen Catholic University’s (FJCU) Taiwan Rural Education and Care Center for a long time for the “Yuanta-FJCU Dreams Take Flight Project of Fostering Talent for the Remote Areas.” The Project holds two growth camps and scholarship award ceremonies each year to encourage the recipients to strive for academic excellence. The 2022 Second Semester Growth Camp and Scholarship Award Ceremony was held recently at Banqiao Music Park. A total of 109 high school, vocational school, college, and master’s degree students passed the screening process to receive the grants.

The theme of this camp is “The Journey of the Heart,” in which psychologists are invited to guide students to understand their emotions, learn to accept themselves and love themselves. The students will be able to face failure when they encounter setbacks, relieve themselves when they feel anxiety and negative emotions, and gain different insights and reflections on life from others through story sharing.

The chief executive officer of Yuanta Foundation, Robert Yang, said that Yuanta and FJCU have been cooperating with each other for a long time, and they are like family members who accompany the students to learn and grow. He hopes that the students will have spiritual communication and understanding with their “family members” around them. He also encouraged the students to display the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and construct a strong foundation for the future by building on their strengths, despite the life-changing rhythms of the pandemic.

According to FJCU’s Taiwan Rural Education and Care Center, the scholarship program not only provides material assistance, but more importantly, support and care. Each semester, we learn about the students’ lives and studies through written reviews, and via the input of teachers at each endpoint, we gain insight into the students’ growth process. Regular growth camps are held to bring out different sparks of life through different themes, and to allow students from different schools to get to know each other and support and cheer each other on.

Chu, who is currently studying at the National Taiwan University of Sport, shared his journey at the camp. Although he was not born into a wealthy family, by upholding the conviction of “retreating for progress and reversing for the smooth,” he believes that he can overcome challenges in the future and has the opportunity to turn his life and fate around, encouraging students to never give up.

Only by persisting in giving love and care can we turn momentum into support. For more than twelve (12) years, the Yuanta-FJCU Dreams Take Flight Project has been implemented to encourage underprivileged students to persevere in their dreams and continue to advance through multi-faceted companionship and care, and has provided 1,994 scholarships to 132 university students and 6 master’s degree students.
