In order to respond to Taiwan government’s environmental policy and implement “resource sustainability,” Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) held the second supplier conference of this year (2024) on July 19, with the theme of “Waste Reduction and Recycling: Promoting a New Life of Circular Economy,” inviting suppliers to discuss sustainability issues such as supply chain carbon reduction and net-zero transformation. Yuanta FHC has already invited more than 60 vendors to participate in this year’s events, hoping to utilize financial influence to drive suppliers to promote circular transformation.
Yuanta FHC actively builds a green corporate culture, extends the concept of sustainability to the supply chain, establishes a sustainability evaluation management system, and organizes annual supplier exchange meetings to strengthen partners’ awareness and practice of sustainability issues. We invited I-Kun Liu, the Chief Secretary of the Resource Circulation Administration of the Ministry of Environment, who is responsible for promoting “resource recycling and zero waste” in the national 2050 net-zero emission strategy, to be our guest speaker to share his views on how to achieve a sustainable circular supply model through the strategic management of the life cycle of materials. Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Asia Pacific Sustainability Assistant Vice President, Hui-Ying Chiang, also took the stage to share with the audience how enterprises can carry out IT recycling strategies to increase competitiveness and reduce environmental burdens. Yuanta FHC expects to make the most of policy guidance and corporate influence to lead the supply chain to implement resource recycling and work together towards the goal of zero waste.
As a member of the Coalition of Movers and Shakers on Sustainable Finance, Yuanta FHC has responded to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG12) to “ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns” for many years, and has taken concrete actions to reduce carbon emissions from our own side. Starting from 2020, Yuanta FHC has fully imported the ISO 20400 sustainable procurement guidelines and established a systematic sustainable procurement process, prioritizing the purchase of products with labels of environmental protection, energy saving, ENERGY STAR, water saving, green-building materials, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sustainable forestry, and carbon reduction. The amount of green procurement has been growing positively for three consecutive years, and the cumulative amount of purchase in 2023 has reached NT$273 million.
With the purpose of constructing a sustainable financial ecosystem, Yuanta FHC not only encourages suppliers to build green supply chains and help increase the market share of green products, but also promotes the use of eco-friendly cups by employees and the replacement of plastic bottles with glass bottles for water, thus realizing the plastic reduction campaign. We have also leveraged our financial influence by signing sustainability-linked loan agreements with our customers to support them in integrating circular economy into their product design and achieving the positive cycle of resource utilization. Yuanta FHC will continue to work with our employees, customers, and suppliers to advocate a new life in a circular economy and to put into practice the core value of sustainable development.
