Yuanta Volunteer Instructors Guide Rural Students to Take 1st Step towards Smart Spending on Yuanta Financial Management Day

Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) and Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation have used our financial expertise and social service to help spread the seeds of financial management in rural areas and social welfare units. For four consecutive years, we have partnered with Boyo Social Welfare Foundation to organize the “Yuanta Financial Management Day” financial education sharing event. Yuanta volunteer instructors met with sixteen students of middle and upper grades from Jhudong Elementary School and Datong Elementary School in Hsinchu County on July 29th in the online financial management classroom, to guide the students’ first steps in financial management through a financial management board game designed by Yuanta’s financial management volunteer team, along with life events and fun interactive learning.

“Children, let’s think about the money spent on this week. Which ones are wants? What is needed?” Two volunteer instructors from Yuanta Funds’ Channel Business Department combined current issues such as rising raw material prices and inflation to attract students’ attention and introduce them to financial management knowledge by sharing simple and smart ways to manage money such as “need or want,” “price comparison” and “bookkeeping” to cultivate children’s proper view of money. The students discussed enthusiastically at the event and gave feedback that they would “shop around in the future” and that they would “measure their pocket money and consider whether they could buy game cards.”

Yuanta attaches great importance to the education and development of children. In addition to bringing financial management courses to the children, we also donate used extracurricular books provided by Yuanta colleagues to nurture children’s interest in reading. Since 2017, Yuanta has been giving away over a thousand books to the children of Boyo, including children’s picture books, science books, and biographies of great people, accumulating a fountain of knowledge through books to turn lives around. The chief executive officer of Boyo Social Welfare Foundation, Liang-Chih Chen, said, “Like the children, I look forward to the annual ‘Yuanta Financial Management Day.’ The Yuanta financial instructors always make the difficult financial knowledge understandable to the children in an easy-to-understand way, and I deeply feel the dedication of the Yuanta team.”

The Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation’s financial management volunteer team designs interactive financial management board games for students with the lively characteristics of “Yuanta,” and from 2018, they have gone to rural schools and social welfare organizations to share basic financial management concepts. In the past four years, Yuanta has held fourteen sessions of financial management education promotion activities, and has held three sessions of Yuanta Financial Instructor Training in the first half of this year (2022). Through the training and experience exchange of past financial management instructors, Yuanta colleagues from all counties and cities in Taiwan gathered online during their off-hours to bring quality financial management courses to rural students, and to warm up for the Yuanta Financial Management Day activities in the second half of the year.
