Yuanta FHC Joins over 80 Suppliers to “Switch off the Lights for 1 Hour,” Calling on Overseas & Taiwan Locations to Expand Sustainability Impact for 4 Consecutive Years

For the fourth consecutive year, Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) participates in the world’s largest environmental conservation initiative “Earth Hour.” Yuanta FHC’s Baoqing Building will switch off its exterior lights for one hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 23 of this year. We continue to call on our overseas bases, including South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines, and more than 80 suppliers to join the initiative. At the same time, we are working with our subsidiaries to respond to the “Green Point” campaign of Taiwan’s Ministry of the Environment, and are collaborating with our employees, customers, and the supply chain to expand our sustainability impact.

“Earth Hour” is a global voluntary public welfare campaign started by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007 to reduce carbon emissions by turning off unnecessary lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of March every year. Responding to the international trend of carbon reduction, Yuanta FHC has become a “financial green pioneer” and has been taking practical actions to support the Earth Hour initiative since 2021, which has saved nearly 30,000 kWh of electricity in total, equivalent to a reduction of 14.85 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. We also support the use of renewable energy, with a total of nearly 2.64 million kWh of green electricity used in 2023, comparable to a carbon reduction of 1,307 metric tons.

In order to promote the sustainable development of the industry and the society, Yuanta FHC has invited more than 80 suppliers to join the initiative this year, which is the largest number of participants ever. Yuanta FHC and subsidiaries have together responded to the Green Points campaign of Taiwan’s Ministry of the Environment, in which members of the public who purchase environmentally friendly products, take public transportation, or take part in environmentally friendly actions are eligible to receive Green Points in return. Points can be exchanged for, or discounted against, products with certifications such as environmental protection labels. We hope that through the Green Points system, “green consumption” will become part of our life, and we will work together to minimize resource wastage and mitigate environmental impact.

As a mover and shaker on sustainable finance, Yuanta FHC leads Taiwan’s financial industry by taking the initiative to build a Carbon Inventory Management and Calculation System, which promotes our internal carbon reduction strategy in a systematic and scientific way, and enables us to keep track of the carbon emission situation of our 330 locations in Taiwan. Yuanta FHC are aligned with international trends in our business strategy. We have made the “Climate Change A List” of the CDP’s global carbon disclosure insight action and have been ranked in the Leadership Level for six consecutive years. We have also been selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index for five years in a row. Consequently, we have become a force for social and environmental change with our steady and pragmatic performance.
