As the declaration and action of net-zero emissions in 2050 has become a global trend, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has organized the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award (NEPA), which is the highest environmental honor in Taiwan, to select outstanding enterprises that have achieved success in promoting environmental protection and carbon reduction, and this award is now in its sixth year. Yuanta Financial Holding Company’s (FHC) outstanding performance in the four major areas of low-carbon operation, sustainable finance, low-carbon supply chain, and sustainability advocacy was recognized by the NEPA - Silver Award for the third time. Yuanta FHC received the award from the Minister of the Environment at the award ceremony on September 6, and went to the Office of the President to meet with Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao to accept the commendation after the ceremony.
Yuanta FHC has long been concerned about climate change and responded to the international trend of carbon reduction by introducing an internal carbon pricing mechanism, adopting energy-saving equipment, reducing energy consumption, and deploying green power. Started from 2021, five major subsidiaries, including Yuanta Securities, Yuanta Bank, Yuanta Life, Yuanta Funds, and Yuanta Futures, have been using 100% renewable energy in five locations. More than a quarter of Yuanta Group’s locations use renewable energy. As of the first half of this year (2024), green power usage has reached 2.24 million kWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 6,686 households, an annual increase of more than 2.09 times compared to the same period, highlighting Yuanta FHC’s determination to move towards a net-zero transformation.
In order to realize sustainable finance, Yuanta FHC promotes low-carbon products and e-services. Through digital services, subsidiary Yuanta Bank’s “Diamond-Gold Carbon Lucky Account” saved 260 million pieces of paper in 2023, which is comparable to protecting 30,000 trees. Yuanta Bank has also launched a low-carbon commodity loan offer to encourage customers to prioritize the purchase of new-energy vehicles and motorcycles. Yuanta Funds pioneered the use of electronic payment accounts to purchase funds, providing customers with more convenient services and reducing energy consumption through electronic cooperation.
Yuanta FHC supports products with environmental, energy-saving, and green labels. Cumulative green procurement amount of the entire Yuanta Group reached NT$270 million in 2023, an increase of 1.28 times from 2022. Yuanta FHC actively advocates green procurement and has been recognized by the MOE for thirteen consecutive years as an outstanding unit for green procurement by private enterprises and organizations. This year (2024), Yuanta FHC responded to the MOE’s Green Point by combining the Earth Hour (turning off the lights for one hour) and World Earth Day, and spurring subsidiaries to organize the “Yuanta 188 Sustainability Activity Relay Program” to encourage their employees to enthusiastically participate in and live out the green life.
As a member of the Coalition of Movers and Shakers on Sustainable Finance, Yuanta FHC has been vigorously engaged in the international arena, and has been ranked number one (No. 1) globally in the category of FBN Diversified Financial Services and Capital Markets of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for five consecutive years, as well as having made the Climate Change A List of the international carbon disclosure organization CDP for four years in a row, and being ranked at the Leadership Level for six years straight. Yuanta FHC has also joined the world’s Early Adopters of nature-related financial disclosure (TNFD) this year, and continues to move toward the vision of sustainable finance.
