S&P Global, an international sustainability rating organization, announced the results of The Sustainability Yearbook 2024, in which Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) has been selected for five consecutive years as a member of the Sustainability Yearbook, ranking in the top one percent (1%) of the world’s top tier, and receiving global recognition for strength in sustainability. As an international sustainability “gifted student,” Yuanta FHC actively responds to global initiatives by focusing on ecology, public welfare, and impact. Yuanta FHC joins the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) this year (2024) as one of the world’s first Early Adopters and participates in the Partnership for Biodiversity Accounting Financials (PBAF) to do our part to help the earth’s biodiversity.
The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook is based on the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) scores used by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), which evaluates a company’s ability to be sustainable from three perspectives: governance & economic, environmental, and social. Yuanta FHC’s outstanding performance in business ethics and climate strategy, as well as the balanced development of our five subsidiaries, placed us at the top of the category of Diversified Financial Services and Capital Markets, along with S&P Global Inc. and UBS Group AG.
Yuanta FHC grasps ESG (environmental, social, and governance) opportunities and risks in a forward-looking manner and has formulated the Sustainable Finance Guidelines to incorporate ESG risk factors into daily operations and decision-making considerations. Our five subsidiaries follow this principle in the development of financial products and services to minimize negative impact on the environment and society and to maximize the critical influence of the financial industry. In terms of our own operations, Yuanta Group is the first in Taiwan’s financial industry to introduce the internal carbon pricing (ICP) mechanism, which internalizes the cost of greenhouse gas emissions, with a carbon reduction benefit of approximately $2.38 million in 2023. In addition, Yuanta FHC has deepened sustainability actions by organizing a number of beach cleaning, walking, and other family day activities from time to time each year, thus rooting the concept of preserving biodiversity within Yuanta Group.
According to the latest Global Risks Report released by the World Economic Forum, “biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse” are the top three risks the world will face in the next ten years. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) also issued a joint statement to promote biodiversity strategies and action plans from a national perspective in the future. Yuanta FHC has actively engaged with the international community by joining the TNFD initiative, and was listed as a TNFD Early Adopter at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland this year. Yuanta FHC will apply the TNFD methodology to focus on the impact of corporate operations on biodiversity in our 2023 TCFD (Climate-related Financial Disclosures) Report to be published this year. Moreover, Yuanta FHC has become a member of the PBAF, advancing with more than 50 international financial institutions to contribute to biodiversity around the world.
Yuanta FHC is not only a member of the Coalition of Movers and Shakers on Sustainable Finance in Taiwan and enthusiastically promotes the development of sustainable financial education, but also keeps abreast of international trends. Furthermore, Yuanta FHC has been recognized in international sustainability ratings, having been named to the DJSI for five consecutive years, earning the world’s number one (No. 1) ranking, and making the highest level “A List” of the CDP carbon disclosure project for four years in a row. In the future, Yuanta FHC will continue to utilize our financial influence and take concrete actions to lead the industry and the society towards the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, thus fulfilling our commitment to sustainable development.
